Only if you are using an HDV recorder, and I'm not talking about those. A recorder that can take the HD-SDI out of the camera, like the Wafian decks that I mentioned, will get totally uncompressed native resolution 4:2:2 video to work with. In this respect, the XLs beat the HVXs on clarity, because Canon uses three 1440x1080 CCDS, and Panasonic upsamples the output of three 960x540 CCDs. The visual difference between the uncompressed outputs of the Canon and Panasonic cameras is truly startling.

Even with a hard drive recorder, the recorded video is still HDV subsampled and compressed. If you have alot of FX shots, you're better off looking at the Panasonic HVX series.
